Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a shield-shaped embroidered item 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height and 2 3/4 inches (6.99 cm) in width overall blazoned as follows:  Sable, issuing from base a demi-sphere Celeste gridlined of the first, surmounted by a key fesswise wards to sinister and downwards Or, in chief a pair of lightning bolts chevronwise points to base Argent, issuing from a spearhead erect Gris; bearing a torch of the third enflamed Proper, all within a diminished bordure Or.

Symbolism
The gridlined sphere expresses the worldwide reach of the Group.  The key illustrates the ability to overcome obstacles, as well as being a symbol of military intelligence.  The lightning bolts represent speed in responding to the needs of the mission; their symmetry is a reflection of precision and balance between being Soldiers as well as assets to the agency.  The spearhead alludes to the frontline and driving force of the intelligence mission.  The torch symbolizes the everlasting desire to better the mission capabilities as well as illumination of knowledge and skills.

Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Quartered and counterchanged Tan and Brown, in base sinister a lightning flash bendwise sinister Celeste and in base dexter a sword bendwise Argent (Silver Gray) overall an eagle soaring Proper clutching a key fesswise Or.  Attached below a Tan scroll inscribed "VICTORY THROUGH KNOWLEDGE" in Silver letters.

Symbolism
The shape of the shield is the same as Central Command's shoulder sleeve insignia.  The shield is quartered to indicate the four primary intelligence functions:  collection, analysis, production, and dissemination.  The blue lightning flash and silver gray sword refer to the branch colors for Military Intelligence.  The quartered shield of tan and brown reflects the harsh terrain that the unit oversees.  The counterchanging of dark and light colors indicates the unit's day and night mission operations.  The eagle is a symbol of the Nation and holds the key of knowledge.  The sword represents defense against any threat.  The lightning bolt signifies the monitoring of all electronic information.
